Claude was born in Portland Oregon, raised in Milwaukie. He spent all of his summers and weekends in Lincoln City roaming the beaches and playing in the tide pools. The ocean and its other-worldly life have influenced Claude's glass work as much as his 13 years of hot glass work at Uroboros Glass Studios.

In 1990, Claude took a glassblowing class from Kyle Gribskov at his studio in Portland. In 1993, he bought the old Fernhill Community Center building located in Astoria, Oregon. In 1995, Claude quit his job at Uroboros and went to work for Kyle at his new studio in Skamokawa, Washington. Here Claude worked for Kyle 3 to 4 days a week and got the studio to himself a couple of days a week to produce his own work.

Claude uses dichroic glass and lots of bright, pure and often reactive colors. He enjoys experimenting with the colors, and particularly, the way they interact with each other to produce different and often unexpected colors. Claude uses traditional shapes as his canvas. His 25 years of stained glass work has given him a good background in the use of colors in glass.

In June 2000, Claude and his friend, Peter Neff, also a glass artist, purchased a local glassblowing business . He divides his time between his studio in Astoria, OR , local venues and demonstrating glass blowing.
